"No Place for Political Violence": Biden Responds to Second Assassination Attempt on Trump
On Sunday, former President Donald Trump was the target of a suspected assassination attempt at his golf course in Florida, according to the FBI. Trump’s campaign and law enforcement officials reported that he is safe and unharmed.
The US Secret Service reported that its agents fired on a gunman who was near the golf course, recovering an AK-47 style rifle and a GoPro video camera. The suspect fled the scene in a black car but was later identified and apprehended with the help of a witness.
Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw confirmed the suspect's arrest but did not specify if the gunman had fired at Trump. The FBI is investigating the incident as a potential assassination attempt.
This marks the second such incident in recent months. Trump was previously injured in July during an outdoor rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
President Joe Biden condemned the violence, stating, “There is no place for political violence or any violence in our country.” He assured that his team is ensuring the Secret Service has all necessary resources to protect former presidents.
Vice President Kamala Harris expressed relief at Trump’s safety, and several Trump supporters, including running mate J.D. Vance, voiced gratitude that no harm came to the former president.
The Secret Service, facing renewed scrutiny following the Pennsylvania incident, is under pressure to provide explanations for the recent breach in Florida.
